Special Olympics is the world’s largest year-round programme of sports training and competitions for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Founded in 1968 by Eunice Kennedy Shriver, sister of US President John F. Kennedy, Special Olympics has grown into a global movement that currently serves to more than 4 million athletes in 170 countries all around the world.

Each country runs its own independent Special Olympics programme. Special Olympics Ukraine is one such programme. 

Special Olympics Ukraine - organization of individuals with intellectual disabilities, accredited Special Olympics Int., the largest international disabled sports organization in the world, recognized non-governmental member of the UN. Special Olympics Movement in Ukraine started in 1991 and is now an influential organization that brings together 19,000 athletes from abnormalities in the mental development of 16 regions.
